Introduction

At Video Journal Daily, your privacy is our priority. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect your information.

Data We Collect

• Email Address: Used for account creation, authentication, and support.
• Encrypted Video Journals & Transcripts: These are encrypted on your device before upload. We never access or process their content.
• Optional Data (User Selected): Weather, location coordinates, activity data (such as steps, walking and cycling distance, active calories, exercise minutes, flights climbed, resting heart rate, and workouts, via Apple HealthKit on iOS and Health Connect on Android), and photos. These are only collected when you choose to include them in a journal entry.
• Device Information: Operating system version and device model, collected for crash reporting and app compatibility.
• Analytics: Anonymized usage events (e.g. screens viewed, features used) are collected via Amplitude. No video content, transcripts, or personal journal data is ever sent to analytics.
• Push Notification Token: Used to deliver recording reminders and account notifications (e.g. subscription status changes).
• Subscription Status: Managed by RevenueCat. We receive subscription lifecycle events but never your payment card details or billing information.

Data Storage & Security

• Local Storage: Free users' video and photo files are stored only on their device. Encrypted metadata (transcripts, sentiment, and optional weather/location/activity data) is stored on our servers.
• Cloud Storage: Pro users' journals are encrypted on-device and stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS S3). We cannot access or decrypt your content.
• End-to-End Encryption: Your videos, photos, and transcripts are encrypted before leaving your device using a key derived from your password.
• File Size Limits: Individual video files are limited to 900 MB.
• No Access to User Data: We do not have access to your video content, photos, or transcripts, even when stored in the cloud.
• Expiration & Data Retention: If your Pro subscription expires, your cloud data is retained for 30 days so you can download it. After 30 days, all cloud-stored files (videos, thumbnails, and photos) are permanently deleted from our servers.
• Deletion Upon Account Deletion: If you delete your account, all associated data — including server-side metadata and any cloud backups — is permanently removed.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the App. None of these services have access to your video content or transcripts.

• RevenueCat: Manages subscription billing and entitlements.
• Amplitude: Collects anonymized usage analytics. No personal journal data is shared.
• Amazon Web Services (AWS): Hosts encrypted cloud backups for Pro users.
• Expo: Provides push notification delivery and over-the-air app updates.
• Apple HealthKit (iOS) & Health Connect (Android): Used to read activity data — such as steps, distance, active calories, exercise minutes, flights climbed, resting heart rate, and workouts — when you opt in. This data is never shared with third parties or used for advertising.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share any of your personal data with third parties. Third-party services listed above only receive the minimum data necessary to provide their function.

Children's Privacy

Our App is not intended for users under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
